Swimming: River Rats dunk Monroe 127-43 in SEC dual-meet

The Huron boys’ swimming and diving team dunked Monroe last week 127-43 in an SEC Red Division dual-meet at Huron HS.

The River Rats opened the meet by going one-two in the medley relay. Huron’s team of Ji Ung Hyun, Kevin Zhou, AJ Stewart and Dylan Schmitzerle won with a time of 1:45.83. The team of Ben Hires, Tyler Gibbs, Drew Lindstrom and Sean Underwood touched second in 1:53.88.

Eli Atkinson took second in the 200 free with a time of 1:52.25 with Brian Moskus third in 1:58.31.

Underwood won the IM in 2:21.07 with Joe O’Neal second (2:29.05) and Aidan Chinnukroh third (2:44.10).

Noah Flott took first for Huron in the 50 free with a time of 23.27. Schmitzerle was second (24.46), Zhou third (24.92) and Ian Powell fourth (25.24).

Stewart took first in the butterfly with a time of 53.76.  Hires was third (1:00.42).

The River Rats took the top four spots in the 100 free with Flott (50.30), Lindstrom (52.94), Powell (56.24) and Alex Moskus (57.47).

Same deal in the 500 free as Huron took the top four spots. Zhou was first in 5:46.67 followed by Matthew Dowling (6:10.33), Matthew Ye (6:57.19) and Chinnukroh (6:59.43).

Huron went one-two in the 200-free relay. The team of Stewart, Brian Moskus, Flott and Atkinson won in 1:31.94. The team of Hires, Powell, Alex Moskus and Lindstrom took second in 1:39.60.

Hyun won the backstroke in 59.09 followed by Schmitzerle (1:03.40) and Underwood (1:03.72).

Hires touched second in the breaststroke in 1:11.13. Gibbs was third in 1:12.16.

The River Rats also went one-two in the 400 free relay. The team of Flott, Underwood, Hyun and Schmitzerle took first in 3:40.28. The team of Stewart, Zhou, Elijah Peters and Lindstrom took second in 3:42.73.
