YPSILANTI – Eastern Michigan University, in partnership with the Henry Ford’s Invention Convention Worldwide, will host nearly 115 young inventors grades K-12 on Friday, March 6 for the EMUiNVENT competition—the regional convention leading up to the Invention Convention Michigan and the National Invention Convention. The competition will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at EMU’s McKenny Hall, located at 878 Cross St. in Ypsilanti.

The goal of EMUiNVENT is to provide a platform to build students’ critical thinking and entrepreneurial skills. Students’ inventions can win big awards at the March 6 competition, and the outstanding projects in the regionals will participate in the 2020 Invention Convention Michigan on April 25, 2020, organized at The Henry Ford Museum.

EMUiNVENT provides students in grades K-12 with an interactive and interdisciplinary opportunity to use the invention process to create and pitch an original product at a regional convention. For their product, students must identify a problem, record the steps they take to solve it, build a model that solves the problem and ultimately demonstrate it at the convention. The students will receive help from engineers, university professors and EMU to convert an idea into a model. Grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12 will each receive first, second and third awards.
