Boys Basketball: Skyline falls to Bridgeport in close game; face Huron on Friday

The Skyline boys’ basketball team lost a close game 67-57 to Bridgeport at Saginaw Valley State University on Monday, Jan 20.

The score was close throughout. Skyline held a 17-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. Bridgeport brought the game to a tie 35-35 heading into half.

Bridgeport used its full-court pressure defense to force some turnovers as Skyline worked to break the pressure. The Eagles missed some offensive opportunities to build a first-half lead and also could have played better on the defensive end in that first half.

In the second half, Skyline got off to a good start converting in transition and building a 46-39 lead. Bridgeport quickly answered with five unanswered points to cut the lead back to 46-44.

The third quarter ended with Bridgeport leading 48-46.

Skyline continued to miss make-able shots in the fourth quarter, and Bridgport converted shots and made their free throws down the stretch to hold on to the victory.

Skyline got a great effort from Chris Cayton who worked hard to handle the Bridgeport pressure while playing great defense. He also had 19 points and 3 steals. Senior Kabir Bergin had a very solid game with 16 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Jack Williams had 9 points and 6 rebounds. Jermaine Davis had 7 points and 3 rebounds.
Skyline will play at Huron on Friday in an SEC Conference game. It’s part of a varsity doubleheader with the girls tipping off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the boys’ game.
