Swimming: Eagles soar to two more wins in tri-meet
The Skyline swimming and diving team splashed up a pair of wins with one dive into the water last week. The Eagles defeated Chelsea 112-74 and Ypsilanti 153-25 in an SEC tri-meet at Skyline.
Skyline began the meet with a splash as the Eagles won the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Madison Deininger, Emma Pettigrew, Lily Cleason and Claire Kozma took first in 1:57.33.
Junior Allison Haak swam to a victory in the 200 free with a time of 2:01.61 to lead a sweep in the event. Deininger was second (2:04.07) and Aly Guevara third (2:10.29) for the Eagles.
In the 200 IM, Skyline’s Ella Enrique-Shakespeare was third in 2:25.56 and Gina Sadler fourth (2:30.61).
Kozma, only a sophomore, won the 50 free in 25.15. Emma Pettigrew was fourth (26.84), Jorie Cho was fifth (27.57) and Erika Sauld sixth (27.65).
Skyline’s Peyton Horning was third in diving with 156.2 points.
The Eagles dominated the 100 butterfly as they took the top four spots: Kozma (1:01.73); Cleason (1:03.17); Angela Noble (1:10.19); and Marin Heusel (1:11.24).
Haak returned to the winner’s circle with her victory in the 100 free with a time of 57.16. Guevara was third (59.98) and Enrique-Shakespeare was fourth (1:00.85).
Sadler went 5:23.85 to win the 500 free for the Eagles. Lauren Sloan was third (5:56.44) and Olivia McKelvey was fifth (6:02.23).
Skyline (Cleason, Kozma, Deininger and Haak) won the 200 free relay in 1:41.89.
Deininger led a one-two finish in the backstroke for the Eagles. The senior went 1:04.22. Freshman Gretel Ham was second for Skyline in 1:06.91.
Pettigrew was third (1:12.36) and Cleason fourth (1:17.38) in the breaststroke.
The Eagles went one-two in the 400 free relay. The team of Ham, Sauld, Haak and Lucy Palacios went 4:01.02 and the team of Guevara, McKelvey, Cho and Pettigrew went 4:02.70.
