Boys Cross Country: Local teams heading to the final turn before home stretch

The local cross country teams are rounding the corner and heading for the home stretch on what should be an exciting run to the finish line. Upcoming events for the teams include this weekend’s always competitive Portage Invite, the 35th annual Gabriel Richard Invitational (Oct. 12), the SEC finals (Oct. 17) and Regionals (Oct. 25).

The three locals got an up close look at each other at the recent SEC Jamboree 2 at Indian Creek. Saline crossed the finish line first with 31 points followed by Pioneer (55), Skyline (68), Huron (87), Bedford (146) and Monroe (151).

There were plenty of impressive individual performances across the board for all three local teams. Leading the way was Skyline’s Isaac Darragh. The senior took first overall with a time of 16:38.

Pioneer sophomore Henry Monte Sano was third overall in 16:44, Skyline senior Daniel Evans was fourth (16:45) and Pioneer sophomore Matt Ruud was sixth (16:47).
