Cross Country: Huron, Pioneer cross top five at competitive races

The Huron boys’ cross country team headed to Willow Metropark on Saturday to run in the competitive New Boston Huron Invitational. The River Rats finished an impressive third with 82 points, trailing only Grosse Pointe South (59) and Monroe (62) in the 12-team race.

Huron had two runners land in the top 10 and five in the top 25.

Senior Adam Bigelow ran seventh (16:44.1) and junior Lucas Weintraub was 10th (16:56.4) for Huron. Six other Huron runners finished in the top 31: Senior Aidan Behmer was 20th (17:56.1), junior Henry Beard was 21st (17:56.3), junior Liam Ridenour was 24th (18:07.0), senior Devin Saxon was 28th (18:10.6), freshman Thomas (TJ) Conley was 29th (18:11.2) and freshman Jamal (Max) Samaha was 31st (18:25.70).

The River Rats will run Saturday at the 30th annual Monroe Jefferson Invite.


Pioneer

The Pioneer girls’ cross country team finished fifth on Saturday at the MSU Spartan Invitational in East Lansing. The Pioneers crossed the finish line with 200 points. Hilliard Davidson was first with 81 points followed by Holland West Ottawa (95), East Grand Rapids (154), and Brighton (190).

Pioneer was led by junior Natalie Mello who finished 13th in 19:16.09.

Juniors Lydia Bowman (37th, 20:07.48), Sylvia Sanok Dufallo (43rd, 20:13.14) and Katie Hume (48th, 20:31.94) all finished in the top 50. Freshman Quincy Behm was 59th (20:48.22), freshman Hana Boggess was 90th (21:21.18) and senior Allison Nutt was 92nd (         21:25.88).
