By Margaret Baker / For WLAA

The Huron boys’ water polo team heads to the State Championships June 10-11 at Saline after defeating Birmingham Seaholm 5-2 on Friday, May 20.

In the Regionals, the River Rats defeated Birmingham Groves to earn a #3 seed and will play Rockford at the opening game of States.

Earning accolades from the Michigan Water Polo Association were sophomore Graham Baker, first team All-Region and first team, Regional Tournament; senior/captain Michael Shahine, second team All-Region and honorable mention, Regional Tournament; senior/captain Jaden Martin, second team, Regional tournament; and goalie and senior/captain Ozan Uluyur, second team, Regional tournament.

And if you’re into fun facts (yes, we are), the Huron Boys’ Polo team has SIX languages other than English spoken!

This is an exciting year for Ann Arbor water polo teams. All three high schools–Huron, Pioneer, Skyline–will send BOTH girls and boys teams to the State Championships!
