Girls Regional Track & Field: Huron crosses first with Pioneer taking third

The local girls’ track and field teams competed in the Regional 4 championships on Friday at Saline High School. In addition to the team scores, individuals and relay teams were competing to see who would qualify for the State Championships on June 4.

In the team scores, Huron finished first with 121 points followed by Saline (106.3), Pioneer (99.5), Woodhaven (75) and Lincoln (68). Skyline was 10th overall.

Huron’s Mackenzie Robinson had a huge day for the River Rats. The junior won the 100 meters in 11.66 seconds and took first in the 200 meters in 24.36. Teammate Mya Georgiadis was third in the 200 meters in 24.67.

Pioneer went one-two in the 800 meters with senior Sarah Forsyth first (2:12.38) and sophomore Sylvia Sanok Dufallo second (2:16.32).

In the 1600 meters, Pioneer senior Cookie Baugh was second (5:03.28) and junior Emily Cooper third (5:04.69).

Georgiadis won the 100 hurdles in 14.39 for Huron. Teammate Christabelle Obi was third in 15.38. Georgiadis also won the 300 hurdles in 42.94 and Obi was fifth (46.17).

Huron’s team of Rachel Overgaard, Aliyah Ferguson, Jordan Douglas and Robinson won the 4×100 relay in 48.58.

Pioneer’s 4×400 relay team of Cooper, Sanok Dufallo, Baugh and Forsyth was first in 3:55.30. Huron’s team of Robinson, Jada Wilson, Douglas and Georgiadis was second in 3:56.60.

Pioneer’s 4×800 relay team of Cooper, Sanok Dufallo, Baugh and Forsyth ran first in 9:02.60.

Huron freshman Cora Williams was second in the shot put (38-10.75).
Pioneer senior Gabriella Newman was first in the high jump (5-8) and Huron sophomore Alena Adams was second (5-0).

Pioneer senior Skylar Fletcher was third in the long jump (16-3).
