Swimming: Eagles win three matches with one impressive jump in the pool

The Skyline boys’ swimming and diving team jumped into the pool on Friday for a quad-meet with Brighton, Pinckney and Midland Dow. The Eagles landed plenty of impressive times, including state cuts from Andy Xi (500 free) and Owen McKelvey (100 backstroke).

The Eagles also won all three matches, defeating Pinckney, 123-61; Midland Dow, 130-56; and Brighton, 118-65.

The Skyline team of Ben Deininger, Daniel Osterholzer, Lucas Caswell and Jack Staunton took first in the opening medley relay with a time of 1 minute, 38.83 seconds.

Senior Ben Kurniawan won the 200 free in 1:46.68 and Xi touched third in 1:49.94 with Ben Edlund fifth (1:50.97).

Caswell took second (2:01.21) and Luke Jordan was sixth (2:17.02) in the 200 IM.

The Eagles took three of the top five spots in the 50 free with Matthew Lee second (21.44 seconds), Evan McKelvey third (21.97) and Jack Staunton fifth (22.87). Ian Root was seventh (23.15) and Deininger was eighth (23.24).

Skyline’s Stuart Knight dove to a first place with a score of 215.20 points. Soren Nielsen was fifth (130.80).

In the butterfly, Ben Kurniawan was second (52.32) and Chris Kurniawan was fourth (56.53) for the Eagles.

Skyline went one-two in the 100 free with Evan McKelvey first (47.80) and Lee second (47.89). Edlund was fifth in 50.83.

The Eagles took two of the top three spots in the 500 free. Xi was second in 4:59.72 and Caswell was third in 5:00.22. Nick Cordell was ninth in 5:35.02.

The Eagles team of Evan McKelvey, Staunton, Ben Kurniawan and Lee won the 200 free relay in 1:27.52.

Owen McKelvey was third (55.93), Coleson Probst was fifth (57.45) and Deininger was seventh (58.49) in the backstroke.

In the breaststroke, Osterholzer was second (1:01.76), Staunton third (1:03.48) and Lewis McCammon fourth (1:03.93).

The Skyline team of Caswell, Evan McKelvey, Lee and Ben Kurniawan won the 400 free relay in 3:14.37.
