Swimming: Pioneer finishes first at four-team meet at Grosse Pointe South
The Pioneer boys’ swimming team spent Saturday at Grosse Pointe South and returned to town with a first-place finish and another impressive performance. The defending state champion Pioneers finished with 365 points, 52 points better than runner-up GP South. Macomb Dakota was third (255) and Brighton fourth (152).
The Pioneer medley relay team of Jack Wilkening, Alex Farmer, Ryan Hume and Gabriel Burks touched third in 1:36.49.
Pioneer opened the individual races with a dominant showing in the 200 free. Teodor Jaworski was first (1:45.83), Robert Yang placed second (1:46.16) and Harrison Sanders took third (1:46.52) for Pioneer.
In the 200 IM, Hume took second in 1:56.83 and Christopher Leuciuc was sixth in 2:04.06 for Pioneer.
Pioneer took three of the top five spots in the 50 free with Wilkening second (21.84), Burks fourth (22.28) and Farmer fifth (22.33).
In the butterfly, Yang was fourth (52.74) and Jaworski fifth (53.68).
The Pioneers took three of the top five spots in the 100 free with Hume third (49.07), Burks fourth (49.35) and Caleb Rice fifth (50.06).
The Pioneers went one-two in the 500 free as Jensen Wood touched first overall in 4:57.20 and Sanders took second in 5:01.38.
Pioneer’s 200 free relay team of Rice, Yang, Jaworski and Burks took third in 1:28.73.
Wilkening took first in the backstroke in 51.16. Leuciuc was seventh (57.25) and Isaac Almeida was eighth (57.38).
Farmer was fourth in the backstroke (1:00.62). Young Jun was sixth (1:04.26), Rice seventh (1:04.36) and Brighton Han was eighth (1:07.29).
Pioneer’s team of Yang, Jaworski, Hume and Wilkening took first in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:12.21.
