Swimming: Skyline splashes up impressive performance at Groves quad

The Skyline swimming and diving team had a big day on Saturday at a quad-meet hosted by Birmingham Groves. The field included U-D Jesuit and Brother Rice.

The Eagles won all three matchups, defeating Groves 113-72, Brother Rice 137-46 and U-D Jesuit 99-86.

Skyline took third in the 200 medley relay. The team of Ben Deininger, Daniel Osterholzer, Lucas Caswell and Jack Staunton finished in 1 minute, 39.31 seconds.

Evan McKelvey won the 200 free in 1:45.15 with Ben Edlund touching fourth (1:50.74) and Andy Xi sixth (1:52.13) for the Eagles.

Ben Kurniawan won the 200 IM in 1:55.88. Caswell was fourth (2:00.85) for the Eagles.

Matthew Lee kept the Skyline winning streak going. The senior won the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.31 seconds. Staunton was sixth (22.53) and Ian Root seventh (23.15) for the Eagles.

Skyline’s Stuart Knight was second in diving with 219.40 points. Soren Nielsen was sixth (133.40).

The Eagles took the top three spots in the 100 butterfly with Ben Kurniawan first (52.11), Caswell second (53.69) and Chris Kurniawan third (56.29).

Xi touched fifth in the 500 free in 5:10.68. Owen McKelvey was seventh (5:24.58) and Cordell eighth (5:34.41).

The Skyline foursome of Evan McKelvey, Jack Staunton, Ben Kurniawan and Lee won the 200 free relay in 1:26.87.

Deininger was sixth (57.15) and Chris Kurniawan seventh (57.24) in the backstroke.

Staunton touched second in the breaststroke with a time of 1:03.17. Lewis McCammon was sixth (1:03.84).

The Skyline team of Caswell, McKelvey, Lee and Ben Kurniawan won the 400 free relay in 3:11.55.
