Swimming: Huron opens season with victory over South Lyon

The Huron Mens’ Swim/Dive team, coached by Eric and Andrea Stanczyk opened their regular season at home Thursday, Dec. 9 with fans in the stands and a victory over South Lyon, 97-79.

Senior/captain Drew Lindstrom won both of his events easily, pocketing two D1 cuts with victories in the 200 Free (1:45.20) and the 500 Free (4:50.62).  Other Huron event winners were junior Peter Fazekas in the 50 free (23.41), sophomore John Gao in the 100 Back (59.01), and both the 200 Free relay (senior Bryce Yung, junior Alex Moskus, Fazekas, and Lindstrom), finishing in 1:34.19, and the 400 free relay (Lindstrom, senior/captain Jaden Martin, Gao, and junior Joe O’Neal), in 3:36.86.

Putting points on the board in individual events in the River Rat victory were as follows.  In the 200 Free, sophomore Jeffery Wang (2:04.00); in the 200 IM  Gao, 2nd (2:10.80), junior Kenneth Jiang, 3rd (2:15.06), and O’Neal, 4th (2:16.53); in the 50 Free, Yung, 3rd  (24.44) and Moskus, 5th, (26.04); in the 100 Fly, senior Daniel Huang, 2nd (58.47), and Martin, 5th (1:02.71); in the 100 Free, Moskus, 2nd (53.31), Fazekas, 3rd, 55.31, and Yung, 5th, (55.49); in the 500 Free, Wang, 4th (5:36.75); in the 100 Back, O’Neal, 2nd (1:00.32), and sophomore Kal  Bunnell, 5th (1:07.06); and in the 100 Breast, Huang, 2nd (1:06.02), and Jiang, 4th (1:08.92).  Also noteworthy were the 200 medley teams, the “A” (O’Neal, Huang, Fazekas, and Moskus), finishing 2nd (1:44.40), just .09 behind South Lyon, and the “B” (Gao, Jiang, Kyle Smith, and Yung), that cruised to an easy 3rd place (1:49.09).

Swimming for the first time as freshmen were:  Caleb Beach, Ashon Carter, Aidan Dooley, Nouhom Kone, Jonah Kraft, and Matthew Zhang.

Huron will ring in the New Year on Jan. 4 at home vs. Lincoln.
