Golf: Skyline edges Pioneer thanks to a great team round and a tie-breaker
Pioneer and Skyline met on the links last week as part of a quad-meet along with Tecumseh and Adrian at Tecumseh CC.
The Eagles and Pioneers have been playing some close matches this season and it was another competitive match on Tuesday. In fact, it was as “competitive” as it could get as the two teams BOTH shot a 169.
Since there are no ties in high school golf, the fifth player’s score is used as a tie-breaker and Skyline ended up with the victory. It marks the first time Skyline has defeated Pioneer in a league match in girls’ golf.
That crucial “fifth” score was a 47 carded by senior Lucy Stoy – teammate Reva Patchava, a sophomore, fired a 48 so if they went to the sixth score the Eagles would have been in good shape.
Adie Maki took her usual spot atop the Skyline scorecard. The senior carded a 36 for the best score of the day. Junior Helen Kucinski fired a 42, junior Dylan Schueler shot a 45 and senior Riya Patchava shot a 46 to help lead the Eagles into the win column.
Pioneer was by junior Mackenzie Rooney who shot an impressive 38. Senior Kara Muckstadt finished with a 42, sophomore Alex Ellender carded a 44, senior Hayley Marchand shot a 45. Freshman Kyra Kahana and junior Alysa Zhu both shot a 53 for the Pioneers.
Adrian finished with a team score of 204 while Tecumseh carded a 228.
