Ann Arbor students raise $2,600 in gift-card donations to help classmates in need
What an impressive and positive way to start the school year!
Kata Bajcz, a senior this year at Pioneer, and her friend, Izzy Sutton, an eighth-grader at Slauson, held a fund-raiser for fellow Ann Arbor students through their Kids for Kids fundraiser program. The fundraiser yielded over $2,600 in gift-card donations, and a car load of gift-in-kind donations ranging from back-to-school items, food donations, and personal hygiene items.
The girls were so happy to surpass their original goal of $2,000 this year. The total monetary donations from this year and last year total over $3,800 in gift cards that go directly to families in need from Ann Arbor Public Schools.

The numbers are shocking – poverty and homelessness in our front yard right here in Ann Arbor that impacts the lives of children walking the halls in our schools. According to the AAPS, 25 percent of students in Ann Arbor Public Schools face poverty on a yearly basis and hundreds of students experience homelessness. The Izzy & Kata Donation Drive donated all of the money raised to help benefit Ann Arbor Public Schools most vulnerable families. They collected essential toiletries, back to school items, and gift cards for local homeless families and those in need.
The deadline to donate was Aug. 6.
