Softball: Pioneer knocks off host Wyandotte 10-1

The Pioneer softball team travelled to Downriver on Saturday and competed in the Wyandotte Invitational with a number of other strong programs. The Pioneers dropped the opener 4-2 to Dexter and lost the final game 6-4 to Father Gabriel Richard.

In between those two games, the Pioneers scored an impressive 10-1 win over the host Wyandotte Bears.

Ceci Maixner was impressive in the circle. She allowed just three hits and one run over six innings and recorded eight strikeouts without allowing a walk.

The game was tied 1-1 after one and the Pioneer took a 3-1 lead into the sixth inning when they scored seven runs to break the game open. Pioneer had 11 hits in the victory.

Jordan Marion (two runs), Sarina Zajchowski (two runs and two RBI) and Samantha Markel (two RBI) all had two hits for the Pioneers. Rory Campbell had a hit, two walks and two RBI and Alina Mankowski had a hit and two walks.

In the loss to FGR, Zajchowski had a hit, walk and two RBI.

The game was tied 2-2 after one before the Irish scored a pair in the third and two more in the fifth. Pioneer scored twice in the seventh inning.
