Cross Country: River Rats run away with a pair of wins at Chesaning XC Invitational
The Huron boys’ cross country team placed four runners in the top 10 and dominated the 35th annual Chesaning XC Invitational last week. The River Rats crossed the finish line with only 38 points to take first overall out of 14 teams.
Unionville-Sebewaing was a distant second with 104 points followed by Clio (111), New Lothrop (112) and Flint Carman-Ainsworth (138).
The junior class led the way for the River Rats.
Huron junior Peter Stenger was third overall with a time of 16:29.50. Junior Donovan Smith was fifth (16:44.53), junior Evan Ridenour was seventh (16:59.06) and junior Michael Hill-Carruthers was 10th in 17:12.64.
Junior Calvin Shaw was 13th in 17:42.03 and freshman Adam Bigelow was 21st in 18:08.64.
Huron girls
The Huron girls’ cross country team ran in a pack at the Chesaning XC Invitational last week and the pack finished ahead of the pack as the River Rats finished with just 45 points to run away with first place.
Birch Run was second (94), New Lothrop was third (107) and Ogemaw Heights was fourth (113) in the 11-team field.
The five Huron finishers ran seven through 11 to take the meet.
Junior Sam Hastie was seventh with a time of 21:04.37 followed by sophomore Dana Decan (21:11.62), senior Helena Helme (21:11.88), junior Verena Wu (21:12.89) and freshman Mia Solomon (21:14.64).
Sophomore Mari Park was 19th (22:25.25) and senior Matilda Musser was 23rd (22:47.37).
