Baseball: River Rats win the opener, but Eagles take the nightcap in DH split
The Skyline baseball team couldn’t come up with a run during the first game against city rival Huron on Wednesday, but put nine runs on the board in the second game to earn the split.
Pitching dominated the opener on both sides of the diamond as the River Rats scored a 1-0 win in the first game.
Ozan Uyulur started for the River Rats and racked up eight strikeouts and allowed just two hits in six innings. He also allowed just two walks on 91 pitches. Noah Mahmoud tossed a perfect seventh inning.
Mahmoud, who also went 2-for-2 at the plate, hit a double in the first inning to plate Blake Boehmer for the only run of the game. Boehmer and Sebastian Casillas Lopez had hits for the River Rats.
Dayton Stamper went the distance for the Eagles in the opener. He had seven strikeouts and allowed just four hits and two walks.
Zak Kratz and Tim Clatterbuck had hits for the Eagles.
Skyline was perfect in the field while Huron committed just one error.
In the second game, the Eagles broke out the bats and scored two in the second, three in the fourth and four more in the sixth for a 9-1 win over the River Rats.
First the pitching. Jake Middleton allowed just three hits and one run in five innings on the mound. Ryan Gensheimer tossed two innings allowing just one hit.
Lewis McCammon had two hits, an RBI and scored two runs for the Eagles. Gensheimer had a hit and drove in three runs. Alex Gerdenich had a hit and a walk and scored two runs. Dayton Stamper had a hit with two RBI and a walk.
Huron’s Ethan Smith was 3-for-4 at the plate for the River Rats.
