Girls Basketball: Pioneers knock off city rival and rebuilding Huron
Rebuilding is never easy.
Following several successful seasons featuring a strong group of players, the Huron River Rats find themselves in rebuild mode on the girls’ basketball court. On Monday, they met a team at a totally different juncture of the process.
The Pioneers are in a win-now situation and have built not only a strong team but a solid program for today and tomorrow.
The two SEC rivals crossed paths on Monday and the result was not surprising as the Pioneers built an 18-9 lead in the first quarter and cruised to a 60-19 win.
Pioneer led 32-13 at halftime and outscored the River Rats 13-2 in the third quarter and 15-4 in the final quarter.
Lauren DeWolf had a huge game for the Pioneers. The junior guard scored eight points in the first quarter and finished with a game-high 19 points. Speaking of huge games, junior Alexis Clark finished with 16 points in the win.
Mya Hicks and Kayla Covington each scored six for the Pioneers.
Jordan Wright led Huron with 10 points.
