Girls Basketball: Hicks helps lead Pioneer to win over Skyline
The Pioneer girls’ basketball team finally hit the court on Wednesday night and it appeared that the Pioneers couldn’t wait to get going.
Pioneer scored 21 points in the opening quarter and then added 18 more in the second quarter to take a 39-19 lead over host Skyline and cruise to a 79-29 win over the Eagles.
Four players reached double figures for Pioneer.
Mya Hicks led the way with 23 points and four assists. Hicks scored 12 points in the first quarter and nine in the second quarter before taking most of the second half off.
Kayla Covington also had a big nigh for Pioneer. She had 14 points, eight rebounds and one block. Lauren DeWolf picked up where she left off last season with 13 points, including two triples, and three assists.
Felicia Stewart, another standout player from last year, scored eight of her 10 points in the third quarter.
Skyline’s Ava Perry scored all of her team’s eight points in the second quarter and finished with a team-high 19 points for the Eagles.
Pioneer plays at Monroe on Friday night.
Skyline’s game with Huron on Friday night has been cancelled.
