U-M Women’s Basketball scores highest ranking in school history
The Michigan women’s basketball team is not only moving up in the rankings but moving up in the record books. The undefeated Wolverines were ranked No. 11 in the country in Monday’s Associated Press Top 25 rankings marking the highest ranking in the program’s history.
The Wolverines, who have had three Big Ten games postponed already this season including the Jan. 18 game with Michigan State, are 10-0 overall and 5-0 in the Big Ten. Non-conference wins include a 76-66 win over Notre Dame on Dec. 3. They defeated Northwestern, 15th ranked at the time, 84-63 on Jan. 3.
U-M is coached by Kim Barnes Arico, now in her ninth season in Ann Arbor. She has guided the Wolverines to at least 20 wins in each of her eight seasons, three NCAA Tournament appearances and the 2017 WNIT Championship.
The Wolverines have three players averaging in double figures, led by junior forward Naz Hillmon (23.7 points per game) who has scored 35 points twice in a game this year.
Michigan’s next scheduled game is Thursday (Jan. 21) at Ohio State.
