Girls Cross Country: Pioneers run close second at SEC league meet

The Pioneer girls’ cross country finished just four points behind Saline on Saturday at the SEC Red Division Championship at Indian Creek Park. The Pioneers finished with 42 points, just four behind first-place finisher Saline (38). Bedford was third (82), followed by Skyline (110), Huron (111) and Monroe (137).

Freshman Rachel Forsyth took first place overall with a time of 17:44.5. Her older sister, sophomore Sarah Forsyth, ran her first race of the season after recovering from injury and placed 14th overall in 19:54.8.

Cookie Baugh continues her impressive season. The junior was third overall in 18:14.5 for the Pioneers. Junior Charlotte Batra was 11th (19:44.1), sophomore Emily Cooper was 13th (19:47.5), freshman Syliva Sanok Dufallo was 22nd (20:34.7) and senior Anna Dudek was 23rd (20:36.2).

Sophomore Lydia Cocciolone led the Eagles with her 15th place finish in 19:55.8. Senior Catrin Koselka was 20th (20:33.3), senior Laura O’Brien was 21st (20:34.2), freshman Allison Mayer was 25th (20:49.7), sophomore Natalie Kessler ran 29th (21:01.1), senior Sierra Lubetkin was 33rd (21:31.5) and freshman Audrey Wells was 34th (21:43.8).

Senior Sam Hastie cracked the top five with her fourth-place finish time of 18:47.4. Sophomore Rachel Overgaard was 18th (20:22.0), freshman Sonya Shelgikar was 27th (20:56.8), freshman Emiko Sano was 30th (21:16.9), sophomore Mia Solomon was 32nd (21:25.7), junior Mari Park was 41st (23.43.7) and senior Rose Basch was 43rd (25:39.4).
