Swimming: Pioneer, Skyline and Huron open season at Huron Relays (two photo galleries)
There are two undeniable ways to describe Friday’s Huron Relays: It was hot – very, very hot inside the Huron pool. And it was loud – very, very loud.
The eight teams brought a lot of energy, excitement and even some fast times to the season-opening meet. And it featured some of the best teams not only in the area but the state.
In a close race to the wall, Pioneer scored 434 points to edge rival Saline by just eight points. Northville also was right there in the end finishing with 420 points.
Dexter was a strong fourth place with 344 points. Brighton and Huron tied for fifth place with 304 points. Skyline was seventh with 262 points followed by South Lyon East with 180.
The Pioneer team of Quoia Sam, Edwina Jalet, Sophia Guo and Vivian VanRenterghem touched first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1 minute, 49.58 seconds. Dexter was fourth (1:54.79), Skyline fifth (1:59.71) and Huron seventh (2:03.42).
In the 400 free relay, the Pioneer team of Autumn Bullinger, Lucy Mehraban, Lindsay Orringer-Hau and Vivian VanRentergehm swam first in 3:34.67. Skyline (Allison Haak, Alison Lock, Lily Cleason and Madison Deininger) was second in 3:39.92. Huron was sixth (3:48.62) and Dexter was seventh (4:01.13).
Pioneer won its third straight event as Sophia Guo, Lily Cramer, Edwina Jalet and Amelia Weyhing touched first in the 400 IM with a time of 4:08.58. Dexter was fourth in 4:34.02, Skyline was sixth (4:49.81) and Huron was eighth (5:35.40).
Holly Pringle, Lindsay Orringer-Hau, Amy Rodriguez and Sophia Guo won the 200 butterfly relay for the Pioneers with a time of 1:49.77. Dexter was fourth, Huron sixth and Skyline seventh.
Pioneer kept the winning swimming along in the 200 backstroke relay. The team of Quoia Sam, Autumn Bullinger, Amelia Weyhing and Holly Pringle touched first with a time of 1:48.36. Dexter (Charlotte Schultz, Holly Durand, Zoe Michos and Hailee Waters) was third in 1:55.20. Huron was fourth (1:56.12) and Skyline sixth (1:59.36).
Pioneer won the 800 free relay as the team of Vivian VanRenterghem, Lindsay Orringer-Hau, Eva Woods and Lucy Mehraban won in 8:01.43. The Eagles were fifth (8:17.67), Dexter sixth (8:50.38) and Huron seventh (8:54.92).
Pioneer touched second in the 200 breaststroke relay as the team of Lily Cramer, Edwina Jalet, Holly Pringle and Amelia Weyhing finished in 2:05.51, right behind Saline (2:05.41). Huron was fifth (2:19.31) and Dexter sixth (2:20.30).
Pioneer jumped right back into the winner’s circle in the 200 free relay. The team of Autumn Bullinger, Lily Cramer, Quoia Sam and Lucy Mehraban swam first in 1:39.47. Huron was fourth (1:42.93), Dexter fifth (1:43.96) and Skyline sixth (1:45.33).
