Boys Basketball: Skyline opens SEC with big win over Saline
The Skyline boys’ basketball team got a strong SEC win over Saline, 57-51, on Tuesday, Dec. 13.
In the first quarter, Skyline looked to use full court pressure to have a faster tempo and was working to build an early lead. Saline would stay close as Skyline did not convert on some makeable shots and was holding a 13-11 until Saline made a 3 pt at the buzzer to go up 14-13.
In the 2nd quarter, the game went back and forth. Skyline was able to build a 4 point lead and Saline closed it back and the half finished at 23-23.
In the 3rd quarter, Skyline was able to take an early lead and then Saline started winning the battle on the offensive boards in the middle of the 3rd quarter and got some offensive putbacks. Saline was on the attack and made multiple shots to take an 8 pt lead near the end of the 3rd quarter. After the ball went out of bounds with .9 sec, Skyline passed the ball in and Ben Stille made a 3pt basket at the buzzer to end with a Saline lead of 39-34.
In the 4th quarter, Skyline was able to clamp down more on defense. The Skyline scoring greatly increased in the 4th led by Sam Koelling scoring 7 of his 24 pts, Ben Stille scoring 10 of his 19 and also two big 3’s from Pete Roebuck. Skyline had a 4 pt lead before Jon Sanderson made a long 3pt shot with about 35 sec and Skyline was able to secure the ball and make free throws down the stretch to secure the win. Skyline won the 4th quarter 23-12.
